PVHS – “Green” Fun Facts

  • ENERGY STAR Certification achieved – 2016 (91%), 2013 (82%) – 11% improvement in energy efficiency over 3 years!
  • Since 2010 PVHS has saved 7,168,906 kBTU’s, equivalent to $66,691. This is equivalent to 396 metric tons of carbon dioxide or 82 passenger cars not driven for one year or 10,142 tree seedlings grown for 10 years. (EnergyCap® software)
  • 15% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 2010-2016
  • Per capita non-transportation energy usage decreased 17% 2010-2016.
  • Per square foot non-transportation energy usage decreased 22% 2010-2016.
  • 12% reduction in gallons/occupant/year water consumption 2010-2016 (note: water rates increased 48% per CCF during this time).
  • 16% reduction in total water consumption 2010-2016.
  • 86% of turf area is used for physical education and/or other educational purposes.
  • Since 2014, PVHS has replaced nearly 10,000 square feet of turf grass with drought tolerant/native plant species.
  • In 2016 all custodial cleaning products are from the “Waxie Green” line with third party certifications. This is safer for the students, custodians, teachers and staff. 
  • 2016 Waste Management donated recycle bins for all classrooms and offices.
