Farrell representing are from peninsula high school so thank you and grocery don't have to stay for the whole meeting but you're more than welcome you can see the next presentation and those would be very lizard dangerous seats up there on the front step away from the front row okay Doctor Austin stop in second part of your super tennis report I would like to welcome the miraleste next world championship team just computer drum roll in Louisville Kentucky we have some pictures for you I would also like the infamous wonderful Mr nunuk to join his team Mister nimic also not working just working tirelessly with this group of young men but I'm out an outstanding teacher working with all of our students at Merrill last and if you have not been in his classroom lately on your you look for a good time I would recommend you go visit mr. nemus classroom it's a lot of fun so it this time and I have the privilege of practicing with these young men it yesterday at 4 I'm still recovering alright I'm going to turn the presentation over to mr. endemic I'm going to give them a turn your mic on there are 16,000 facts teams in the world there are over 1,100 Vex teams in California alone and it's fastest growing robotics event in the world so we have several teams this is the team that performed out early this year and they're here to you an idea what they did so I'll let them introduce themselves my name is Caleb yeah and I am one of the eight members of the Maryland Institute of science technology robotics team 7035 but we are for our team had to be missed first and foremost would like to thank you for your recognition and the opportunity percent are robot my team numbers are comprised of the following this is stanky opko Health codes on of the robot and build the hammer on the robot this is Tyler evil he was project manager up the board and what are World activities is he held with the engineering notebook and some of the robot base this is Jordan and he helped with the robot and the flywheel fill in the engineering notebook and help with the flu the robot with programming and help with the flywheel and this is Steven jasic who help with engineering notebook and the small projects such as a board answer to myself I programmed the programming skills and made some of the base this year's Vex game nothing but net is very similar to basketball and eject of the game is a shoot balls into your death 40 balls on the field at the start of every game ten of these balls are worth bonus points if shot into your goal you also get 20 clothes that you may load onto your robot at any time during the game the game play at shadagee of this year's eve X game have changed tremendously over time and we Ben and we have needed to adjust a robot's design to meet these new changes at the start of the season are robots design was a robot primarily focused on shooting the 24 preloads these at the time games are slow paced and low-scoring and whoever shot the 24 it was better usually one but over time this wasn't the case anymore and we had to adjust a design this robot now is our current design which means these changes is fast and even fastest firing it has met all the challenges that we have face with and I think it's a really good robot and then also during the season we hosted our very own nothing but Net game add it was really exciting to do board members may have to stand up to see this section Turbo the movie wow gold how to go home set the set well it's kind of bad pyramid hahaha kind of wonderful but there's more now you can sit down weather we were invited to the world championship for three different reasons the first reason is that play robot skills challenge of the competition we got a score of 307 points during the regular season at the conclusion of the season this ring does 1st and California 5th in the US and 9th in the world for Middle School West the next reason is at the Pasadena state championship One driver skills going into the state championship your previous skills score does not matter so you have to perform your best on the day game the trophy and we are able to do so the final reason we are invited to the world championship is that at the Pasadena Championship we also won the programming skills Challenge on like robots goes where you can control your robot with your remote during the programming do you have to program every single thing that it does and you can't even touch your robot for these three reasons we are invited to the world championship well we're at the world championship we had a very unique and wonderful experience when we first got there we set up a booth where we're able to store robot and show up and put up a map of the world the map of the world we had pins for and teams could come around and play spins where their front we ended up with maybe around 100 depends and total on our map in the world we are from and also what our team number was we also went around what two different buns from other teams these are just a few of the ones that we collected finally our booth we are able to put up a poster to show process that we went through to put up to make the robot that we currently have it also shows our accomplishments throughout the season later that same day we went to an opening that should all wear all 1100 teams were from there are 31 countries and total throughout the tournament we were able to take pictures and talk some of the members from the teams from other countries in different parts of the United States including this let's have a very fun and well-planned learning experience that never forget for the rest of our lives this year in Vex worlds 2016 received a third-place programming skills Award with a score of 3 June 6th which was the third highest Middle School in the 7th highest score overall in the world middle and high school with the score we are also able to participate in the Freedom Hall for our final chance to try to be our original score of 306 unfortunately I Robot Ford 160 years it couldn't complete its turn when it made it to the other side of the Reno we also receive the judges award which is given to the team that judges thing deserve special recognition of their efforts the judges come up with a number of criteria for this award such as team displays of special maybe it's an extreme effort and perseverance throughout the entire event we also finish off the season in 21st seven wins and three losses unfortunately we didn't get picked as an alliance to go into playoffs and even finals October in skills award was due to the hard work we put into a gyroscopic sensor hours to get a robot to make an accurate turn and then go all the way over to the other side so we can go to the other poems as Jordan has said the judges award is given to a team that judge is believed to be deserving of high esteem for us this was due to three factors that these being please design or excellent performance at the competition and our team worked all in all we did very well at Worlds and we really do appreciate the opportunity okay so during this conversation we want a few things one of them is part of building when we are building you don't have to make it good but you have to make everything so structurally sound and everything smooth for example for a flywheel if if that's not enough friction you need a d set friction an officer everything went smoothly so the Fievel Goes faster and also you need everything as structurally sound as possible again so nothing Falls off during the competition yes and also another thing we needed is programming for programming we need everything to be perfect and you need to test multiple times so it works turn the competition because if one thing goes wrong you can't get to the other side like what happen if you don't haul and you can't get a good score and another thing is you needed fall to design process closely what this is is that we get several designs that we have and then we vote on you get several design on scores for each design and see which one is the best and that's how we got the design for the hammer the flywheel and the chassis first of all we would like to thank all the Vex parents who supported us and encouraged us for this event next we would like to next we would like to thank all of our sponsors pfms booster club Pelican Products who helped us ship ship all of our equipment there to Kentucky next we like to tank Tessie Google and finally PMA we also like to thank the members of the Board of Education or principal mr. candle sorry n superintendent dr. osten for our support and finally we would like to thank our mentors coach Mister Niemiec who continue his dedication and inspiration if you have any questions you're welcome to ask the boys I'm super proud of them they really performed on rupley and represented Palos Verdes are they going to really high enter at the world event one not only wear your robotic skills amazing guy a great job presenting so you should be very proud of that as well thank you often in your life you can say you were anything in the world so 3rd in the world is is pretty impressive I've been I've been out of the country a little bit tell me but I sure hope we publicize this as much as possible we get so much press about when people seem to be disgruntled run-happy mirrorless is on a great job we should celebrate it and I hope we make sure the the world and the local public knows about it to mr. nemec I just wanted say answer the parents I know this isn't you know it takes a lot of effort to make this happen anything we can do as a board to help promote these kind exponential learning activities Beyond just Robotics and Vex and try to get him into the other classes and learn from you across the district let us know how we can in an addition I would be remiss I just had to doctor students finish up their dissertations on women and stem and anything we can do to also incur more female participation would be great as well so great job girls team okay thank you one thing I see from you guys is a lot of teamwork I can even see when you're presenting you just give each other the look and you know what each other thinking and who should go next and who should say wet and that's a skill that you're going to use no matter what you end up doing I think you answered it I was wondering how you got that on the plane that sounds like you had a shipping company any other thing is I understand when you visited yesterday and practice that some of you came up and you sad and these big where is San Francisco to the boardroom and I would tell you that there are many careers now for young people who like to Inner interested in technology and community service or politics you can work for the CIA or the FBI TV a pleasure to have you here I just wanted to say how proud I am of you and your teacher for representing the community so well there school district changes really blown away I am so proud of you so I look forward to seeing what you guys do when you get to high school imagine that this was something you guys pulled off in 7th and 8th grade can't imagine you between rockets and who-knows-what so that'll be exciting to see and we're hoping next team at Penn next year so forget solar virgin well I would like to add I like to add I think I made an ashtray in the 7th grade I think that was the extent I know it was a typical like the candy dish we've come a long way I am proud of you guys as as a dad of two miraleste grads who are now older end having spent a lot of time on your campus live next door for about a dozen years really proud I mean it's I think is soon has Lisa posted somehow those pictures got online I just happened to be at the computer that Saturday can you do the den and you have to have a full disclosure I think if it hadn't been for mr. nemec I would still Beyond exhaustion on the return trip of a 70-mile bike trip that we took on the sand Gabriel River path what was that two or three years ago or something yeah I was able to draft this and make it back to to Long Beach so Club you know show these guys really had a ride but yeah I posted those pictures to our Peninsula Cycling Club I was trying to and it wasn't just I of this Facebook thing where it just post to local things cuz my cousin in New Jersey doesn't care about board agendas but these pictures who went out to to to everybody and where I was thump in my chest for you guys just so proud I just wish for Annex variants like this for all 11500 doctor colada said when we've had other wonderful things like like this come here I just I just want the kind of feeling you fellas have and the feeling toward your teacher and your parents feeling house this is going to be so special to you as you look back from a perspective of much later on your life I wish that for every child that goes through our district and so spread the good word of how doing team and collaboration and working hard and everything like that you need to kind of be Apostles out there with all of this so Campbell you're a wonderment man and I'm very happy to know you on a lot of different levels Cynthia thank you sweetheart packing up at all so it's like the thing to parents who brought the students down now yesterday at 4 to rehearse thank you very much appreciate it when the parents are came to save nnig and now this volume as the team is leaving unless you they want to stay I figured the world and if this time sitting Midway back I would like to invite to what Del Vicario who is our president of the peninsula committee Los Angeles Philharmonic and Mariana Dudley who was the youth activity director who were here and who have a presentation for us this evening welcome they left all well here we go however we have some great great news for you too we are here we support the LA Phil obviously and also our big love is supporting youth music art education so I I won't let Marion tell you about some of the things well all of the things we do actually for the students in this District but I don't want I do going to share something special that happened this year I am a former educator from this district and as an educator II thought that it would be great if we could collaborate if we could have elementary school work with intermediate school or in an inch school work with high school will it happen on an event in March and it's called music in the garden which will hear that but I was incredibly touched as were most of the audience when we had participation from reach Intermediate School and peninsula high now you have a very forward-looking music educator at Ridgecrest who collaborated she look for music and her Advanced Orchestra played on the floor and Peninsula High voices of gold down her choral music program the kids playing together while the orchestra was playing now she had to dig up all the music they have Pretty Hurts all that but I'm talking about Goosebumps I mean just to see the all in the face of the intermediate student says for hang with high school students it's something that I dreamt up for long time and couldn't pull off but that happened at the same time and obviously chokes me up still at the same time the president of the play for the fill and they're 16 groups came in and he sat there and he said are these high school students and I said no this would be your 68 free and fast Orchestra from one of the school so the things that are happening in this district with music the intermediate level on the high school and at the elementary are phenomenal so we we will do everything we can to keep her movie and we count on you to keep it going so I'm going to let Mary and tell you about all the other things we do play to give a gift um we give an annual gift to the district for use and the elementary the intermediate and the high school music instrumental programs so we again have our gift for $20,000 which were going to give to you tonight and that specifically for the instrumental programs about a thousand receipts for the Elementary in about 2,000 each for intermediate and high school that we give an actual money but I think when you really look at some of the other things that are committee does the value of that grows exponentially because for many many years we've had the music mobile program Alta of the elementary schools in the district plus we do about 14 other schools in San Pedro and Lomita Gardena Hawthorne all the other communities rounding where we go to all the third graders we see over 2000 third graders every year we have about 60 docents to go out and have a display that tells them the young children about orchestra instruments we have instruments that they can handle and play and the thrill and their faces do some of those kids that have never seen an instrument I never much less play the violin or a trumpet or drum it's it's phenomenal is my favorite program I said that's music mobile and that we incorporate our music instruction programs to to progress by age so it begins with the Third first then in the fifth grade we bring them into the Norris theater and we have a program there for the fifth graders all 900 of them and add they come in and hear the last few years it's been on Jason Fulton of his brass Ensemble have given a lesson about the brass instruments plus I had strings we had other different things so we do that every year for the district and that is only for the district children we don't do that outside of the district and then the instrumental but gift that we give covers really all the way from elementary through high school so we try to cover everything chance but what Paul is talking about with the music in the garden is something that is set of The Next Step that we've been able to do and I brought a couple of programs that I'm going to include in the pack because this is very important for the children that they had their highlighted the pictures are very very small but they're there in hair and I can see that they were part of a group that actually participated in the public and the idea of this is too full one is to give the children a chance to perform before an audience in particularly in March it's very important because they're getting ready to go to their festivals and their competition so it gives them a very friendly audience mostly local people who can come out and support and hear that these kids play when is it's a wonderful experience that gives me goosebumps to just to see it we had 280 children come out and perform most of them were for the peninsula but let me just give you a variety of what we heard that day the palace word is high school jazz combo baked they were they let us off and then we had the miraleste intermediate it's cool Symphony we also reached out to Narbonne we've been trying to nurture Narbonne High and help them with their music program they're not nearly Advanced as we are here in this District but we're trying to help them to get there so there a jazz combo came out the Torrance South High Spartan jazz on also joined us and then followed by the Palos Verdes Intermediate chamber and then what Paula was talking about with the Ridgecrest advance Astra angli group and plus the Peninsula High School varsity voices of beautiful music a chance for our turn to perform and also for the community to see where their dollars are going and where their school their school programs are going so we'll continue to support that and we're very happy to present our check for $20,000 and I thank you very much for your support I'm late please do come next march the 5th to the botanic gardens we collaborate with a botanic gardens so it's great boil Cayenne thank you one second Mustafa Chiropractic schools in the high schools get a lot of credit because that's when the performances happen but I think we will be remissed without mentioning I mean it happens because of you okay so on behalf of my family the board if your years of service we're going to miss you okay well we've been blessed to have you and I'm glad to hear that you're still going to be around thank you okay thank you very much Jessica it's all yours well first of all I want to say how grateful I am to have been able to be a participant on the capital Convoy trip I want to thank the palace Verdes Peninsula Council of ptas for including me it was such an amazing experience yet you guys were there it was I'm so second we should all Mars Junior students have been working on a speck practice test the math assessment is the week of May 16th and the language arts assessment as the week of May 23rd Ranch tomorrow had a great turnout for our student parent graduation meeting and hit Distribution on Wednesday April 20th so I did include all the information of senior year prom everything like that add item today 17 students are actually have all of their graduation requirements completed so they're ready to go and today May 11th Rancho Morrison's raible to go on a personalized tour of Long Beach City College and coming up many students will be attending the palace please prom on May 14th at the House of Blues and the Palos Verdes Peninsula prom on May 28th at the Fonda Theatre also stream everything to receive notification of scholarship Awards so Maddy McHugh was recognized as Student of the Year at the palace Verdes Sunset Rotary Club dinner on Tuesday April Stevie Hilton and Nancy delatorre received scholarships from the national charity League Stevie Hilton also received a scholarship from the PVP Rotary Club and I actually received the team service award for the palace Verdes Peninsula coordinating Council and sand emerging and received a scholarship from the palace Verdes faculty and more scholarships are in the works so that's really exciting on Wednesday June 1st and admissions officer from Los Angeles Harbor College will be hot Ming and conducting a workshop for seniors and the students will learn about the admissions process and will be able to actually complete their application right there with them so that'll be really good and then we were also just notified by the WASP committee that we received our 6-year accreditation through June 30th 2020 saw her hard work paid off lastly are principle is my Humphrey was awarded administrator of the Year district 7 at the State of California continuation education conference also our art teacher Miss were while I received the California continuation Education Association life my membership award so congratulations to both of us thank you Jessica very good okay we now turn to report aboard numbers Barbara anything from SoCal Rock and otherwise yes will last week we had our annual scholarship dinner and that was it's it's always very nice and it's so exciting to see the kid can you see what their future plans are and we were honored by having them with the assemblyman David Hadley their Senator Ben Allen and then Adam Berg also showed up so that was nice because each of them felt the need to speak to the group so that was everyone like that and the kids were Matthew Lewis and the got scholarships marrying I think from about 500 to $2,000 to go towards their college education so I always a special evening so that's all I have to say and we're just still in business and still muttering on and then we're going to have a small summer school I'm the summer I guess the welding class seems to be the most popular one because you can take the welding class and go out and get a job for about eighty thousand and I mean it's fabulous welding is your thing SoCal Roc the place to go anyway that's my report thank you thank you Linda well Tech advisory committee I don't think we have anything to report before the end of the year Trent yeah we're going to try and have a wrap at meeting and can't talk about summer projects and planning next year we have some time between now and the 7th of June or fight I think with your schedule so I think we're looking into June okay thank you I just had one quick thing I wanted to ask my colleagues about and that is something I've been working on for about 6 months with turn off our local governments in that's the idea of a social host ordinance in what that is is the idea of a it's not something the school district or School Board would decide on butt it's a civil ordinance where local governments could find adults who Supply alcohol to minors in their homes and something that's been passed and worked on successfully and Manhattan Beach a bunch of Orange County communities and I asked a pencil high school student to look into this as kind of volunteer project and she did a great job and put together some great information thank you Lauren and also spoke with the retired police chief who served drug task force is it local high schools who also is a parent in our community and he's the one that kind of first put my bug a bug in my ear about it and so I contacted the Estates as a parent and said I'm not contacting you as a school board member cuz Malcolm tells me the rules and I follow the rules but I'm asking you as a parent is this something that you would look into and they basically said no they they they didn't think that there was a problem with underage drinking in our community and so I emailed back the mayor the marriage and some great research and looked into it too and he thought that it was but the stuff said no so I wrote back really nicely and I said you know Vince would find that very funny that you think that there is no problem let's be really honest with underage alcohol consumption in our community that's ridiculous so then the city manager called me well actually yeah we have had a lot of reports we said the Watch Commander said there been 40 incidents in the past year okay well that's play different than zero so what they asked is that if the board would send a letter does have to be a resolution but a letter to our local for cities asking them to consider this topic then they would be willing to discuss it and I made her standing informally is that Rancho PV would be interested in doing this and I haven't spoken to anyone from turn it to your Rolling Hills so I was wondering if it's not perfect that's what I'm asking is if we would be willing to agendize it to discuss a topic of writing a letter on it but I can't ask you to it I asked you what are you doing anything else that's pretty much it is the main other activities are all just the fun end of the year stuff late April late April 7th April I had an opportunity presented the American educational research association annual meeting in Washington DC and what's both inspiring in disturbing about that experiences 100 year anniversary and you basically it's the world's largest educational research conference and you have anywhere from 12 to 15 thousand people from all over the world coming to really talk about the ways in which we can improve education both here in the states and internationally and inspiring part is it out and the disturbing isn't sticking hundred years and we're still trying to figure it out but I was very fortunate to speak there and and I recently I was in the Philippines I had a chance to meet with some educational experts at Ateneo which is kind of their version of a it's a very prestigious private maybe Stanford might be something similar and it was also interesting Lee fascinating to you just to see the struggles that we are having an education and trying to do a better job that you know we're not alone is lots of folks trying to figure this out and Edge One reform in the Philippines They just added a compulsory 11th and 12th grade which they never had so now they're going to figure out how to do this so anyways I feel very fortunate on my shared a lot of the work that we're doing here in the district as well as the work that I'm doing it after 9 so so Linda so the comment you made so Malcolm Wynwood that go on like how does that get on an agenda and how I don't understand that what's on the agenda you tell this latest on the next one or the next one that fits that would be very helpful besides just giving a topic to give some more information I'll take a look at agenda and see you know there different topics and pretty if you can kind of crap some language and then maybe someone in the district patio versus business facilities that are okay so I hope that's the right now Palos Verdes lacrosse is playing so I'm hoping that there Winnie no one has asked or anyone can chat for us that's kind of exciting so Peninsula and Peninsula High had four of their seniors named presidential scholar semifinalist and they are Michael McFarland Noah Court sir Jack Grimes Andrew I don't say her last name maybe you can help me that stuff is really long anyway so they rent the favor for finalist and what I wanted to mention was theirs 3.3 million graduating high school seniors this year in the country and 4,700 students are identified as candidates to be a presidential scholar and there were 689 National semi-finalists and then Peninsula had four of the students from California and then and her name is actually not typed on here otherwise I would really try to say it I can't say that stuff of my head oh yeah I know I hear it is rou no way that's not close but I'm trying so she actually is she was the winner so she was announced present was called which is a big deal and yeah and the fourth presence of scholar in the last 6 years from Peninsula so that's pretty unusual good news some other good news is a Boy by the name of Brennan from Peninsula I don't know his last name if you know it Micah renovate so his band weather is the sign to a national Gordon contract and he is going to take a year off and go on a tour cross the country and has an RCA record label of contract and it's just exciting to live your life and action of a dream and launch it and it's so very cool for him so all that music education pays off teen body president at Silver Spur Elementary School um he's on the school board so he he gets it should I have a lot of volunteer hours yeah yeah the kids that are doing wonderful things did I mention I made an ashtray once again so and this just this just in PV it's tied 1-1 with about four and a half minutes in the first quarter is it now well up boy yeah yeah they're they're they're tweeting just lay there I just like to add you know this is the time of the year where we do a lot of end-of-the-year activities I've already been to some of her honorary service award meals we get fed at those so there is some of that and we're all very is he in those is the years going on and this morning Linda and Dr.Oz tonight myself attended a year in celebration of our art at your fingertips a group at the PV Art Center the place was packed is the 40th anniversary for Arctic your fingertips great Community Partnership with art center of the representatives of the library in the Land Conservancy also good partners with us I think there's potential for other nurse in the community of course the Philharmonic is another one but yeah that was that was an invigorating time this morning so yeah with that said we will move right along I don't sing have any card so we have no public comment on a non agenda items so we are moving to item M1 which is the public hearing on consideration of level 1 school fees facility fee in places for residential and Commercial and Industrial Development within the district pursuant to Ed code section 7 6:20 so I'm opening up that public here and if there any speakers to this issue now is the time are hearing no speakers I am closing the public hearing and now we move on to M2 which is the adoption of the I'm having to do with these fees and Lydia do have anything to add group and it's been available for public viewing if any person came into view it it's a slight increase from 54 tends to $0.56 on residential and from $3 and 46 $3.36 to $3.48 on Marshall properties and if the board approves it tonight it would be effective in 60 days and increase statutory school fees and pose and residential development for $3.48 and Commercial Industrial Development for $0.56 project pursuant Ed code section 17620 level one piece hearing no discussion all those in favor I post not M3 revisions to to our policies and administrative regulations they're listed their current considerations so is this discussion Direction know whether action than that is that correct we good General comment General comment on any particular one policies change where we and I'm assuming this is one of the changes that are in there that you know something is supposed to happen within six weeks of the school something is supposed to happen around somebody's profession development of training I'm not as interested right now and hearing how it's done but I do think it's some point to cut a report to us the obsessive who's checking in who's monitoring that as the new policies coming to place that whether it's done at the you know beginning of the year or Nation weather supposed to happen I think I'll be helpful and I and I both interested in kind of how you guys do it cuz it's probably not my strong suit not the professions of Ellen but keeping in compliance of all the new policies in the deadlines that you have so that's you know it's just a request I think I'll be interesting to come back to the board at some point and share that I think that is it I have in terms of the these politics missing okay so we can move on to em for doctor culverhouse at this time I like to ask Michael front table Michael will be presenting just a brief overview of the essentials of Algebra 2 years to your program what to say that this is the basically the last adoption within the math series over Algebra 1 geometry Algebra 2 and are Essentials on the on the heels of our six through eight tvcm pbcm 6 7 and 8 and also rk5 method Focus so we're we're we have luck good luck to do this turn we got a lot accomplished at this time I'd like to turn it over to Michael and he will talk to you about the essentials of algebra book I'll just keep this brief essential algebra is a pvpusd to your math class that's designed to provide our students an opportunity to learn the essential skills in algebra while meeting the California graduation requirements for mathematics we've offered this course is part of the pvpusd mefx pathway since 2004 tonight we're recommending Ideas Math Algebra 1 as the textbook adoption for Essentials of Algebra 2 textbook went through the same rigorous pilot process that was presented to the board of Haitian on March 23rd the teachers agreed that the content of this program will meet the needs for Essentials of algebra students by reinforcing algebraic Concepts introduced in PVC M8 while expanding upon essential algebra skills professional development for this program will be offered to teachers this month pacing and curriculum planning session will be offered during the pvpusd summer Institute and ongoing and training and support will be provided throughout the 2016-17 thank you Michael any questions I have a question it's not so much about the text at all it's just about my own knowledge around the two-year Algebra 2 who traditionally he would be the what which students will be taking this is this into work Lee historically these are students that would have possibly what's in Algebra 1 in 8th grade and would be then repeating it historically they that meant that they were in the Prentice Hall one text in 8th grade unsuccessful and then were in the same textbook I put that has two years to another famous off the hill and they used to have I think of to your geometry program and it was at the high school level wasn't Bridging the middle to the eyes when you could see how that would problem because the students essentially were never going to be a through G eligible based on the pathway sound when I was teaching into it sounds like this still allows those students who struggled in 8th grade the kind of Master those skills in 9th grade and still stay on track to meet their math requirements absolutely so our students that are coming out of Palace Verdes Core math 8 now on really have three opportunities we have Algebra 1 honors which was approved at the last as you guys know Algebra 1 and Essentials of algebra so we're basically we haven't placed something to meet the needs of all of our students to you know when you stick the way the algebra class used to work the way it was set up originally in 2014 that was again under Rosemary it was a wonderful person it was set up who mostly for kids who we knew were going to struggle with algebra so they did sale algebra first before going into the class they were just set up for a 2-year class because they needed more time to master the also it was I don't know it was algebra and algebra but it was a two-year path to get them through and it wasn't a lot of kids but it was be helpful for those kids and so kids who probably would have struggled in the one-year algebra class with the additional time and effort and everything we're able to complete Algebra 1 and 2 years and be successful so that was the way I recall it being set up originally it was kind of a at the time and no idea so we have geometry MCR we don't have algebra x this is the algebra 2 you take if you were a struggling a student would you take two years of this to your algebra class and then geometry MCR can go into geometry MCR on you actually if you wanted to it's a total it because it's a different textbook you could take algebra one after this but them Giardia students are going to do Essentials of algebra b which is the two-year program and then they'll going to Geometry MCR during their Junior and then during the senior year they could take Algebra 2 answer so we have a full singer for years after the students researcher for you seems to me at some point we did have an algebra MCR for it was for kids to didn't need algebra A&B which was the two-year but did something that was less than algebra one you know and so we had this little little miss my recollection from a long time ago the Math teachers across the district before through really hard the past couple years to get everything in line and and moving from Common Core and and and the like so I don't want to send a brush fire out here but I hearing you talk about the pathway it would be interesting in the future especially now that we're going about her feet on the I really excited about the curriculum to maybe talk about the sequencing and maybe there are some alternative sequences where it doesn't necessarily have to go Algebra 2 geometry there's other things in ways that we can explore it so just might pitch for future, maybe it was the meeting where we approved then we say we need to have a math time again too kind of flush to discuss the ships and we're working on that presentation is my philosophical and you know how to map me to the kind of I think there's room for that necessarily need to look exactly like that cuz I'm sure the last thing you talk about tonight what am I saying here the board approved the board approved the recommendation to adopt in hardcore Big Ideas Math for use in the essentials of algebra High School course beginning in the 2016-17 school favor I thought algebra out at geometry Algebra 2 did not turn down from Mount Sinai that wrong with that that was not 11th Commandment that didn't make it they drop the tablets okay thank you we are moving on to one budget revision anything you need to listen for the gifts turn the last. And so we're just recognizing them and revising the budget to reflect the the dollars I just I was going to make with the consent I'll just make it now I probably could have done the work myself but I'd be curious to see just year-over-year analysis of the gifting sure we can do that also maybe in the next couple weeks something so we are accepting the PTA booster club ASP gifts for 88000 6:40 are all gifts and thank you for all the bugs me that gift summary bar32 and related cash transfers for the unrestricted general fund 1.1 by increasing budgeted revenues and expenses by 8006 45 with no change to the ending fund balance can you have II for the discussion all those in favor moving on to n to measure rim Consumer Price Index adjustment and they had discussion about whether or not they would recommend to the board whether they would increase the parcel tax by CPR that's currently in place which is 2.22% that's provided to us by school services and the recite committee unanimously voted to recommend to the board to increase the parcel tax by the CPI that will be in effect as of June 30th 2016 okay any questions do I have a motion I move that the board approve the recommendations from the oversight committee on increasing the pracasil spy dcpi in effect as of June 30th for the 2016-17 budget year any other discussion all those in favor also at the March 15th meeting the citizens oversight committee reviewed the current addition of the parcel tax funds and after discussion day again unanimously agreed to recommend to the board that the a distribution of the parcel tax funds for the 2016-17 school year remain the same as the 2015-16 school year okay any discussion likes had one quick question on this one do you remember remind us why the carryover from the before went it was five sorry I can't read that clip 500 something thousand 565 65 328 there might recline back in focus all programs in Brighton and that is two years of Cary aquarians to remember okay best car to be okay but we spent those yes and that's if you see in the 16-17 year it's not there do we have a motion to have a motion to approve please move that the board approved the recommendation from the oversight committee on the parcel tax and proposed annual plan for the 1617 budget okay all those in favor opposed can we move now to the consent of there is play oversight committee meeting next week Ward the oversight committee okay Barbie have anything to pull from consent T3i Barber thank you Linda P1 a Tony 02 E & O it's different one terrorist it is the one tell me what it is which field trip I suppose overnight filters news12 the teams national competition California history oh it's a for something for a right okay that's just the difference to say p and these are bpusd on it makes a difference anyway but I can't remember where I saw it on unreal saw that I thought that was a typo on so no one else caught it but I thought happy was dropped off of one of the items but I didn't write it down we were pvusd next valve oh that's the leabo foods that's the piggyback bid for Valverde no no just those two you have the thing about the membership okay good I am also good so I'm going to read I think the difference Jenna is that my worksheet here is peas and it should be owes which is better than peas and news cuz I always keep those straight alright comfortable which doesn't make sense if there's a queue oh I see that's the difference so do I have a motion to approve o to a BC D and F and oh 3 B C D & O 4B some of all those in favor Linda you have one next I just had one question that was pretty obvious that I just want to make sure that the parents at this High School understand this in our it's all good that we had more than 60 choreographers that we paid for peninsula high school I'm just if that's their program that's fine I just want to make sure that in the interests of transparency with ASP funds that everybody knows that we're paying for whoever pays into that is paying for more than 60 choreographer I'm not sure how many students that that services but I can answer that question to a lot of people so in answer to that question it was we have 400 dance Resort for dance teachers in 400 dancers and so they they they they have they pay for the choreographers from either from 100 to $200 and then they could use that choreographer over and over again pvhs has 75 dancers and they don't feel the need for the choreographers that was just wondering it just seemed like a lot of money in a lot of things for something sorry Mitzi Cress I'm going to forward mitzi's email with that be good for messaging email to Jan and she'll distribute to the board because I have the same thing I said turn the light of dancing up and I've never seen so many future SC cheerleaders something for you so you could relive one second girl sissy I couldn't help it I think about some of the conversations we had on in our meeting around issues around equity and equality so that when I saw the approval of proposed overnight field trips I think it's comes up every year that we have certain schools that take overnight field trips for grade for a tied to California history and then I think most schools do something in a round grade 5 outdoor Science school so I guess my request would be the doctor culverhouse you know if you could come back with the report may be to let us know why is it that some schools are getting a fifth grade overnight trip and some are not getting a fourth grade and is it a choice based on the school will the staff that want to go over night my greater concern is 241 is there any sort of financial issue as to why one site might be a for more willing to be able to fund this I do know we approved I think in last year's negotiations doctor bows to pay teachers actually more money when they're going over night so I would like to see this is kind of my twofold one is is it a financial issue secondly if it's not a financial issue you know I would like to say in every school in our district beat Elementary School we offer an overnight experience spin 4th grade and 5th grade am I don't want to mandate that from the board table as one board member I think every elementary school should have that experience don't think there should be some that have to want any to grade level and others that don't so that's kind of days are there so I'll let her answer to let you know how important the overnight field trip is in 4th and 5th grade when I was going to school at San Diego unified and I went to the mountains and saw snow for the first time it's not prepared that was that was a magical thing I would like back into I would really from one board members perspective encouraged kind of the curriculum depart to really emphasize that I think it's important that all the school doesn't mean I have to go to the same place that's right I think they should have some freedom but I think the fact that it happens the pta's at all the schools generally have a fund for children that would have a financial problem so so really no one should soap entire school does Maidu field trip at the different issue but there should not be an issue for children that would have a financial need that that should be taken care of it every School site and I hope it still is so with that I move that the board approve the proposed overnight field trips at various locations involving 4th grade classes California history and fifth grade classes Outdoors school for 2016-17 Barbara p303 a the team effort it's a quick question my question is where are we with the health benefits and an extension of it or is it okay so yes this is continue to work we've kind of come to a Lowell and where we ended up and so what this next step is is to allow American Fidelity on behalf of the district 2 submit requests of information to approximately six to eight different insurance carriers looks like a request-for-proposals act lead see if they would be willing to a quote the district so we could have some type of comparison and against Calpers so it's an extension of that works okay thank you that was my question so with that I move approval hi Antonio for a my only question is you know it looks like it's a $48,000 if I remember correctly that I come over that number correct you know the cost to belong to a whole slew of different memberships and associations and organizations and societies on one hand you know we essentially have a 100 million dollar business maybe $48,000 about the kind of the going rate of 100 million dollar businesses in terms of memberships on the other hand I also have worked with many schools in other districts where every year they kind of just re-up without any sort of conscious effort on there that should be happening so well I wouldn't want to see a bunch of time spent on it I'd be curious to know what some of our other what what is this dollar mark look like for some of our compare comprable districts and just you know might be helpful of somebody took a look at the list and just say do we really need to belong to all these so like I said it might just be the cost of doing business but I'm making a pitch that we might want to just take a look at it in that somebody can say actually every one of these are necessary and we need to have it so I don't think they'll says another comment that was just my thought when I read that was single person in the district send you guys a list and say I want to join us or do we join these things every single year I didn't know how we came up with this you know obviously added we have to join that but you know I spell autism never heard of obviously we send the list out to the different administrators in the district and ask them to review and delete or in some places add different organizations so I'll do an analysis I can do cause by membership and curious maybe we're actually on the load I love for all we know with that second king any other disk all those in favor okay so moving right along let me get to the right skewes me I close down a screen ocean close op let's see information items we have the minutes turn the October 27th 2015 oversight committee so it will present his information and with that at 8:17 we are adjourned into closed session
