Background Information and Adoption Process
Alignment of the mathematics curriculum was the predominant focus during the 2014-15 school year with the successful textbook adoption of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Math in Focus for grades K-5 and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Big Ideas Math for grades 6-8 Palos Verdes Core Math classes. The work continued throughout the 2015-16 school year with the Intermediate and High School pilot for Essentials of Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2.
PVPUSD secondary schools offer Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 classes designed to meet the needs of all students. The Big Ideas Math Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 program is a research-based curriculum providing a rigorous, focused, and coherent curriculum for middle school and high school students.
