PALOS VERDES PENINSULA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT AND
PALOS VERDES FACULTY ASSOCIATION REACH TENTATIVE AGREEMENT

PALOS VERDES ESTATES (May 6, 2019) -- The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District (PVPUSD) and the Palos Verdes Faculty Association (PVFA) have reached a tentative two-year contract, Superintendent Alex Cherniss announced today.  Upon approval by both PVFA members and the Board of Education, the mutually-agreed upon terms of the new contract will cover the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years.

“It has been a long time since the school district and its employees have settled on multi-year calendars and multi-year compensation packages,” stated Superintendent Cherniss.  "This agreement shows that we are moving in the right direction as a collective team focused on supporting students.”

“On behalf of the Board, I want to thank the bargaining teams for their hard work this year,” added Board President Linda Reid. “Negotiations were conducted in a positive manner as everyone worked towards solutions. Our families are thrilled with the two-year agreement.”

The tentative agreement includes a 3.0 percent raise and an additional $500 contribution by the district toward individual and family health benefits for the 2018-19 school year.  The agreement also includes a 1 percent raise for the 2019-20 school year.

The tentative agreement also includes a two-year calendar as previously communicated to the community, and changes to contract language.  The updated contract language addresses class sizes for world language courses; aligns leaves of absence language to current law; streamlines and strengthens the evaluation process; and establishes a collaborative committee to improve the support system for struggling teachers.

PVFA members will vote on the tentative agreement throughout this week. If approved by members, the PVPUSD Board of Education will vote to ratify the contract at an upcoming regularly scheduled meeting.
