The Board of Education has begun the search process for a Superintendent to replace Dr. Austin who announced his resignation at the May 23 Board meeting. Dr. Austin has accepted the position of Superintendent for the Palo Alto Unified School District effective July 1. Summer Camp for TK-5th Grade Students
The Kids’ Corner Summer Day Camp program is still accepting applications. This year’s camp will be held at Silver Spur Elementary School from June 11 – August 10. For more information, please visit: www.pvpusd.net/camp/
Grades TK-8 School Transfer Request Process for 2018-19
Families that wish to request a placement at another school within the District that is not the student’s home school will have the opportunity to complete the request from June 15 – July 15. Approved transfers are based on available space. All families will receive an email prior to the end of school with additional information and guidelines about the process.
No action is required by families that are not interested in a transfer.
Back to School Registration Information
In response to parent questions regarding Registration Days for the start of the 2018-19 school year, please review the following FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions):
For TK-5 students, are there any events or activities prior to the start of school?
Some elementary schools may have optional social or “meet and greet” types of activities but nothing that is required. Registration forms and participation documents may be submitted on the first day of school.
Will there be an Intermediate School (grades 6-8) Registration Day?
Families at Miraleste will have the opportunity to submit forms, purchase spirit items and sign up for school activities prior to the first day of school but this is not required. PVIS and Ridgecrest families and students will be able to purchase optional items prior to the start of school and can submit registration documents on the first day of school. Details will be posted to school websites.
Will there be an orientation for incoming 6th grade students at the Intermediate schools?
Yes, each school will have events for all incoming 6th grade students. Additional information will be shared with families.
Will there be a High School (grades 9-12) Registration Day?
Families will have the opportunity to submit forms, purchase spirit items and sign up for school activities at an optional Registration Day on August 14. Students who are unable to attend will have a process to get lockers and class schedules by or on the first day of school. Details will be posted to school websites.
What happens if my family is on vacation in the weeks prior to the first day of school?
Everything for “back to school registration” can be submitted on the first day of school. Access to the required forms/documents and optional items will be available online.

Textbook Adoption for Grades TK-5: English Language Arts and English Language Development
The Board of Education recently approved the selection of McGraw Hill Education’s “Wonders” for the TK-5 English Language Arts and English Language Development textbook adoption. This will be implemented in two phases: Grades TK-2 in 2018-19 and Grades 3 – 5 in 2019-20.
