Elementary DLA & Independent Study (IS) FAQ

Students will meet in-person or online with a teacher to review content, progress and take assessments.  The meetings may be 1:1 or in groups as the teacher sees fit. 
Independent Study
- Student is required to login for a minimum of 30 minutes daily.
- Parents/Guardians bear the responsibility to support students at homeensure that standards are learned, and work is completed.  
- Teachers will provide weekly updates to parents regarding progress. 
- Students are required to attend the weekly meetings, no exceptions.  If these requirements cannot be met, Independent Study is not an appropriate choice for your student. 
 
PVDLA
-Teachers provide direct instruction from 8:30am until 12:30pm.
- Parents/Guardians bear the responsibility to support students at homeensure that standards are learned, and work is completed.  
- Teachers will provide weekly updates to parents regarding progress. 
- Students are required to attend the weekly meetings, no exceptions.  If these requirements cannot be met, PVDLA is not an appropriate choice for your student. 
- Yes, TK-3 will have daily live synchronous instruction.
- Grades 4-12 will have synchronous instruction a minimum of once a week.
Every effort will be made to try to accommodate different schedules, however, that schedule is set by the teacher, will be within the school day (not after hours), and must be in person unless there is an extenuating circumstance (which is on a case-by-case basis and rare). 
PE will be assigned asynchronously through the Independent Study program activities monitored by the parent. Music will not be available.
Yes.  In choosing Independent Study/PVDLA, you are leaving your space at your homeschool and will need to transfer/reenter the lottery should you wish to return the following year. 
Students will use District adopted curriculum.
