1:1 Chromebook Pilot Program

Q: What is the 1:1 Chromebook program?

A: PVPUSD's 1:1 Chromebook program provides every student with access to a district-issued device to support teaching and learning both at school and at home. Chromebooks help students develop essential skills such as communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and responsible digital citizenship while providing access to high-quality instructional materials and digital learning resources.

Q: Is the 1:1 model at every school in PVPUSD?

A: No, PVPUSD is piloting this program at Miraleste Intermediate School only for the 2026-27 school year. Depending on how it goes, PVPUSD may expand this to more schools in the 2027 school year.

Q: How does the checkout/check-in process work?

A: Before receiving a Chromebook, students and parents/guardians must review and sign the District's Chromebook Agreement. Devices are checked out through the school and remain assigned to the student throughout the school year. At the end of the year, or if a student leaves the District, the Chromebook and charger must be returned.

Q: What if my child does not have internet access at home?

A: Many applications, including Google Workspace tools, allow students to continue working offline and automatically sync when an internet connection becomes available. Families may also access free Wi-Fi at public libraries and other community locations. If internet access presents an ongoing challenge, families should contact their school for assistance in identifying available resources.

Q: What are my child's responsibilities?

A: Students are expected to:

  • Bring their fully charged Chromebook to school every day.
  • Use the device for educational purposes.
  • Handle the Chromebook with care.
  • Follow all District technology policies and the Student Acceptable Use Agreement.
  • Report any damage or technical issues promptly.

The Chromebook is an important instructional tool and should be treated like any other school-issued learning material.

Q: What happens if the Chromebook is damaged?

A: Families are responsible for taking reasonable care of the Chromebook. If a device is accidentally damaged, stolen, or lost, families should notify the school immediately. Depending on the circumstances, repair or replacement costs may apply in accordance with District policies and the Chromebook Agreement. Damage resulting from normal wear or manufacturer defects will not result in charges to families.

Q: How will Chromebooks be used in the classroom?

A: Teachers integrate Chromebooks into instruction to enhance learning, collaboration, research, creativity, assessment, and communication. Students may use digital textbooks, Google Workspace applications, learning management systems, educational software, and other district-approved instructional resources as part of daily classroom instruction.

Q: How does the District keep students safe online?

A: PVPUSD uses internet filtering and monitoring tools to help protect students while using district-issued devices both at school and, when applicable, off campus. Students are also taught age-appropriate digital citizenship, online safety, and responsible technology use throughout the school year.

Q: Can parents monitor their child's Chromebook use?

A: Parents play an important role in helping students use technology responsibly. We encourage families to establish expectations for technology use at home, keep devices in common areas when possible, and regularly discuss online safety and responsible digital behavior with their children.

Q: Is PVPUSD going completely paperless?

A: No. Chromebooks are one of many instructional tools used in our classrooms. Students may continue to use printed textbooks, workbooks, paper assignments, and other instructional materials as appropriate. Technology is used when it enhances teaching and learning—not to replace every traditional learning resource.

Q: What happens if my child forgets their Chromebook?

A: Students are expected to bring their fully charged Chromebook to school each day, just as they would any other required school material. Classroom teachers will determine appropriate expectations and consequences if a student repeatedly forgets their device. There may be extra devices to check out for the day, but the supply is extremely limited.

Q: Can students play games on their Chromebook?

A: Chromebooks are provided for educational purposes. Students may only access games or applications that are teacher-approved or support classroom learning. Personal gaming, downloading unauthorized applications, or using the Chromebook for non-educational purposes may result in disciplinary action or loss of technology privileges.

Q: Can students personalize their Chromebook?

A: Students may personalize certain digital settings, such as wallpaper or accessibility features, provided the content is school appropriate and does not interfere with the operation of the device. Stickers, writing on the device, removing district asset tags, or making physical modifications are not permitted.

Q: Who do we contact if we need technical support?

A: If a Chromebook is not functioning properly, students should report the issue to their school's technology support staff.

Q: What happens if my child transfers or withdraws from PVPUSD?

A: District-issued Chromebooks, chargers, and any other accessories must be returned when a student withdraws from PVPUSD or at the end of the school year if directed by the District.

Q: What if I do not want my child to have a Chomebook check out to them?

A: Because technology is an integral part of teaching and learning in PVPUSD, we encourage every student to be assigned a district-issued Chromebook. Having a dedicated device ensures students have consistent access to instructional materials, digital resources, classroom activities, and assessments.

If you have concerns about your child taking a Chromebook home, we encourage you to contact your school principal. We will work with your family to develop an alternative plan, such as assigning a Chromebook that remains at school. In this case, the student will check out the device each school day for classroom use and return it before leaving campus. While this option supports instructional access during the school day, students may have limited access to digital assignments or resources outside of school hours.

Q: Is there a district offered insurance program for this?

A: At this time, there is we do not offer district insurance.
