Health Services

Your child’s health and safety are our priority. Acute and chronic health conditions can affect a student’s ability to learn, and our goal is to support all students in achieving optimal health so they can fully participate in their educational experience.

At the beginning of each school year, families complete the online registration process. Please ensure your child’s medical information is current and accurate. We also encourage you to contact your child’s school nurse to discuss any health concerns. School nurses partner with families, healthcare providers, and school staff to support students’ health needs during the school day.

Health services across the district are provided by credentialed school nurses and health clerks. High schools are staffed with both a school nurse and a health clerk. Intermediate schools have an assigned school nurse, while elementary schools are supported by health clerks, with a credentialed school nurse assigned to oversee and assist multiple sites. The health clerk is non-licensed; however, they have training in basic first aid and CPR. The Credentialed School Nurse works closely with the health clerk to optimize the wellness of all students.

 

They have a Baccalaureate degree or above; many of our school nurses have additional post-graduate education related to school health issues and have a School Nurse Health Services Credential through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

 

School nurses are the primary health care providers within the educational environment, promoting optimum health status, physical, mental, and emotional health, so all students may achieve their fullest potential as a learner and a person.

 

Health Clerks are unlicensed staff trained in First Aid, CPR, Medication Administration, and Specialized Procedures. They work under the supervision of a credentialed school nurse.
