Welcome to the Health Services Website
Your child’s health and safety are our priority. Acute and chronic health conditions can affect a student’s ability to learn, and our goal is to support all students in achieving optimal health so they can fully participate in their educational experience. Our Health Services team is here to partner with families and school staff to help support each student’s health needs throughout the school day.
At the beginning of each school year, families complete the online registration process. Please take a moment to make sure your child’s medical information is current and accurate. We also encourage you to connect with your child’s school nurse if you have questions or concerns about your child’s health. Our school nurses work closely with families, healthcare providers, teachers, administrators, and health clerks to help ensure students receive the appropriate support at school.
Our Health Services Team
Health services throughout the district are provided by credentialed school nurses and trained health clerks who work together as a team to promote student health and wellness.
- High schools are supported by both a credentialed school nurse and a health clerk.
- Intermediate schools have an assigned credentialed school nurse.
- Elementary schools are supported by health clerks, with a credentialed school nurse overseeing and assisting multiple school sites.
Our Credentialed School Nurses
Credentialed school nurses bring specialized education and expertise to the school setting. They hold a baccalaureate degree or higher, and many have additional graduate-level education related to school health. Our school nurses hold a School Nurse Health Services Credential through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
School nurses serve as the primary health professionals within the educational environment. They promote students’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being and collaborate with families and school teams to help students reach their fullest potential.
School nurses provide and oversee a wide range of services, including:
- Assessing students’ health needs
- Developing and supporting individualized health plans
- Teaching and promoting healthy practices
- Providing health education and appropriate health care
- Responding to emergencies and supporting crisis management
- Making referrals and connecting families with appropriate resources
- Supporting communicable disease prevention and control
- Conducting mandated health screenings
- Training and supervising health clerks and other unlicensed staff in appropriate health procedures
Health clerks are an important and valued part of our school health team. They are familiar, caring members of the school community who are often among the first people students see when they need assistance during the school day.
Health clerks are trained in First Aid, CPR, medication administration, and specialized health procedures. They provide day-to-day support for students and work closely with the credentialed school nurse to help meet students’ health needs safely and effectively.
Health clerks are non-licensed staff and work under the supervision and direction of a credentialed school nurse. The school nurse provides guidance, assessment, health care planning, and oversight to help ensure students receive appropriate care and support.
