Math in Focus is based on the Singapore Math Framework which is based on research of math mastery in Singapore, and consistently ranks at the top in international math testing. The central focus of the program is in on problem solving where students acquire and apply mathematical concepts and skills to real-world problems. There is intentional progression of concepts to instill a deep understanding of mathematics rather than rote memorization of skills. It also aims to instill in students an attitude that math is important and approachable.

The program provides a balanced approach to instruction beginning with activities and exploration followed by teacher directed examples and reinforcement of academic vocabulary. Students transfer the concepts and application of content previously learned with exercises which provide a balance between procedural fluency and problem solving.
