History

On the November 5, 2024 Election, Measure SOS, a $297,800,000 bond measure, was successfully passed, pending county authorization on December 5, 2024 by 57.43% of the voters to complete the most urgent and high priority improvements, including:

Repairing or replacing leaky roofs
Fixing failing pipes to prevent sewer and gas leaks
Fixing inadequate and failing electrical systems
Repairing failing classrooms, restrooms, and school facilities
Replacing outdated and inefficient heating and cooling systems
Removing hazardous materials like asbestos and lead
Replacing deteriorating 30+-year-old portable classrooms that exceed their life span
Improving earthquake and fire safety and campus security
Updating aging science labs and classrooms to meet current educational standards

Timeline for Appointing a Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC)
December 5, 2024: Los Angeles County certifies election results
December 18, 2024: PVPUSD Board of Education certified election results and approved application process and bylaws for the CBOC
December 19, 2024: Application for SOS-CBOC released to the public
January 13, 2025: Applications submitted by 4:30 pm to Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services, Ms. Brenna Terrones, PVPUSD District Office, 375 Via Almar, Palos Verdes Estates, CA, 90274, or email [email protected]. For clarification, please contact Ms. Brenna Terrones at 310-986-3418.
January 22, 2025: PVPUSD Board of Education reviewed and voted on selected candidates, where nine members were chosen to comprise the CBOC.

Committee Membership

To satisfy the accountability requirements of this proposition, the Board must appoint a Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC). It is the charge of the CBOC to oversee the spending of bond proceeds and the construction projects for the life of the program. The goal of the committee is to assure the public and the Board of Education that the bond funds are spent in accordance with the bond measure and Facilities Master Plan. Staff support will be provided by the Office of the Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services, Director of Facilities and the Coordinator of Maintenance and Operations.
There are seven (7) open positions on the committee. Applicants should meet one of the following criteria:
*Section 1582 of the California Education Code requires that 5 of the 7 positions be filled by members with the following qualifications (Term of service is two years and for no more than two consecutive terms):

A. One member who is active in a business organization representing the business community located within the school district;
B. One member active in a senior citizen’s organization;
C. One member active in a bona fide taxpayer association;
D. One member shall be the parent or guardian of a child enrolled in the district;
E. One member shall be both a parent or guardian of a child enrolled in the district and active in a parent-teacher organization.
NOTE: There are 2 positions on the committee for which you may be selected if you do not fall into category A-E above.
