"Connect by Disconnecting"
Dear PV Families and Community Members,
As we embark on this holiday season I would like to thank each and every one of you for making PVPUSD a “Lighthouse” district. Exceptional public school districts are truly a rarity; therefore, all of us living here on the Peninsula are so fortunate to send our children to our amazing schools. Please know that our continued success is, in fact, your success. The support of our parents, our community partners, our PTAs, our booster clubs, and our Peninsula Education Foundation makes a daily impact on the quality of education in the classrooms. As a result of your unwavering support, our teachers, principals, and support staff feel empowered to provide the best possible education for your kids.
Over these upcoming holiday breaks you will have the opportunity to spend quality time with your family. I encourage you to make use of this time and to disconnect from the all-consuming digital world that envelops all of us. Take some time to unplug from your phones and plug into the lives of your kids. Talk to them about what they’re learning in school, their hobbies, their aspirations, their questions. Read with them, take them on adventures or just hang out and be together. Most importantly, be present with them and for them because teaching and learning doesn’t end when the school day ends. There is a daily and weekly “hand-off” from you to us, over and over as we are partners in educating our children. During this holiday season please take advantage of this quality time away from school as it is just as important for the development of our kids as the time they spend in school.
It is an honor to serve as your superintendent!
Alex Cherniss, Ed.D.
