Palos Verdes Intermediate School Named

2024 California Distinguished School

PALOS VERDES, CA — Palos Verdes Intermediate School has been selected as a 2024 California Distinguished School, becoming one of only 293 schools statewide to receive this designation this year.

The award, established in 1985, recognizes elementary, middle, and high schools based on key indicators outlined in the California School Dashboard. It prioritizes schools that demonstrate academic excellence and growth, along with a positive school climate.

Palos Verdes Intermediate School Principal Micah Farrell shared, "We are honored and humbled to receive the California Distinguished Award once again. The award is a true testament to the high-quality education we provide all students. It demonstrates the dedication of the Palos Verdes Intermediate staff and parents who work together to create a supportive learning environment.  Our efforts in improving student achievement and closing the learning gap among student groups continue to be our goal, which can only be achieved by maintaining a positive school culture. Thank you to the California Department of Education and PVPUSD for your support - Go Sea Kings!"

PVPUSD Superintendent Dr. Devin Serrano expressed that it is an honor to have a school recognized by the California Department of Education.

“This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, parents, teachers, and staff,” said Dr. Serrano. “Accomplishments like this only happen when everyone is working together to see all our students succeed. This incredible honor is reflective of the teamwork and positive culture at Palos Verdes Intermediate School that allows students to thrive. This is a tremendous point of pride for our entire school district community.”

Elementary schools are recognized in alternating years from middle and high schools, so PVIS will hold this title for two years. The school will be recognized in a ceremony at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim on May 3.
