Collatos Resigns from PVPUSD Board President Role

Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District School Board President Dr. Anthony Collatos announced today that he will resign as PVPUSD Board president effective immediately, but will continue to serve on the board. Per PVPUSD Board Bylaw 9121, Vice President Linda Reid will assume the responsibilities of the Board president until the Board reorganization in December 2018. Collatos has served as Board president three times during his nine-year tenure and is not seeking re-election in November.

In December 2017, the Board asked President Collatos to remain as president for the 2018 term. He agreed to continue with the condition that the Board would revisit the possibility of a reorganization in the spring.

Dr. Collatos explained, “It has been a privilege to serve the District and lead my colleagues as the Board President for the past two years.  I fully expected to have a Board reorganization in the spring, but it became apparent that we might lose our superintendent.  I felt it was important to remain as president to maintain consistency throughout the search and hiring process.  With our approval of Dr. Alex Cherniss as superintendent, it is now time to allow Vice President Reid and the Clerk, Suzanne Seymour, an opportunity to lead the District.  I look forward to assisting them over the next few months before my term ends.”

Both Dr. Collatos and Barbara Lucky are not seeking re-election after having served nine and 21 years respectively.  There are three Board seats up during the November 6 election.
