Davidson on the side of okay hello I'm having sat on the board for eight years I know this gender should have been posted and it wasn't posted online until I called Janet nicely got it up there but the law says you supposed to 72 hours in advance I know you probably had it on the bulletin board but not everyone lives across the street so you need to in the future please ensure that when someone wants to look at the agenda today before meeting that is up there City morning it was not on their number one number two I'm requesting on the next agenda which is it will be in Vegas the two weeks that you have the indoor air test from Cornerstone Elementary School are you only know. by the fourth grade parents about the indoor air problems in rooms 11 and 12 in the middle of the testing a custodian moved a summa canister which is a vacuum like testing device and put it in another room and you your call is test okay and you're proving this as you can tell I'm quite passionate and upset about this because my grandson was in room 11 all last year so I have a question for you I want you to really it's request the teachers are complaining about the Dust I was on the school board when we started Cornerstone I was the board president they probably had and I didn't supervise every room asbestos ceiling I want to know if the ceilings are dropped teachers are complaining about a fine white dust all over the place no one in that test scenario tested the dust and I want to know when I think you want to know what that is. You turned his problem was in Beverly Hills when the kids from Beverly Hills High or meeting and then colleges office cuz they all have them phoma I do not want my grandson or any other child to be meeting in an ecologist office in a few years it's I think you understand where I'm heading here and it's do you have to do more due diligence than blowing this off because this is been blown off you've got to teachers who had cancer that coming back into a classroom with compromised immune systems I don't think it's safe and I'm saying this not just isn't individual but having spoke with doctor Joseph odencrantz PhD professional engineer at this is what he does for his life for he's a very dear friend in Newport Beach this is his profession this is not okay and I don't want you just blow this off because oh well the lab said it's okay no it's not okay it's really not thank you okay thanks the weight the agenda item to make sure that that's cuz I found it I saw it on my myself so did it with the posted and then it somehow fell offer okay on the regular agenda. normally I let that go tonight because we don't have a lot of speakers but normally I would ask her to speak about at something that's not on the agenda and earn an agenda items but then she left I can't tell her that approval at the agenda for tonight so important to be clear that was posted online Friday night because I slept on it last Friday night because I always post it to my school board Facebook page so as of last and at some point later I think Monday there was she wants the link but just to be clear posted last Friday night like we always do prior to our meeting you know the next week so I just want to be okay all those in favor of tonight's agenda and that's 5-0 and we'll move on so she is probably commented open items the public will be given the opportunity to address before during agenda item as we just saw an H1 is approval of the minutes Barber I believe you were gone on this one okay Auntie D consent calendar does anyone have anything to pull Barbara nothing imma make a couple comments with my board member comments at the okay on paper you going to post okay that carries 5-0 we are onto the report of the superintendent and that is dr. Ernest thank you present read members of the school board tonight I am excited to bring to the school board report which provides a framework for the work that I'll be doing over the next romance and several years as I mentioned at the last board meeting in as I documented in a letter to the community I do have specific goals and expectations for for r and they're really centered around students and so first and foremost I do have targeted instructional goals around getting more of our students up to grade level and with 20 what percent of our students not at grade level we have we have quite a bit of work to do and there's a lot of room for growth so next at the next board meeting the board will give a data presentation what stop is currently working on that'll kind of drill down on where we are academically on both on the state accountability assessments and also where we are related to college acceptances and another data regarding subgroups but tonight what I'd like to do is first on the first part of the report is just to reiterate did the seven expectations I have for a district with is around getting more students to grade level and advanced providing Innovative programs making sure that our kids are so see if socially and emotionally and physically healthy on campus and really making sure our extracurricular programs in our stem programs are are excellent programs and also on The Cutting Edge of innovation and so we're excited to to to go that route so my listening listening and learning my really Phase 1 is it's really about the assessment it's about understanding systems and it's about assessing them so in the area and of curriculum and instruction it's a assessing our curricular programs looking at our textbooks determining where and when we will have to adopt a new materials looking at our church soon data and also beginning the process of training are principles to be instructional leaders principals key role is not to just be a manager of a School site it's to be the instructional leader for the School site and we will begin the process actually tomorrow and our principals meeting of actually training or principles on how to diss aggregate data how to determine which students at their School site are not at grade level and how to teach teachers how to diss aggregate data to determine which students in their classes are not at grade level I need further support and then future trainings will be around developing intervention programs for the I'm so Step One is identify the problem Step 2 is addressed the problem and so I'll also be looking in the area of crickler and curriculum and instruction at technology but education technology infrastructure be looking at our development of our El Cap which should be a combination of instruction and budget and it should tie together looking at professional development plan what is our plan for the district do we have a professional development plan and at this point it's kind of we kind of are doing a lot of good things it's not all tied together we want to have a concrete plan so that'll be a lot of Assessments and and part of it the assessments will be to get input from the community until Phase 2 of this is public comp yeah it's about meeting with ptas it's about meeting with stakeholders Community organizations local booster clubs councilman youth organizations and its really asking these people what are the strengths of this community what are the strengths of the school districts and what are some of the challenges and starting the in and I'm already it kind of in the midst of that right now and I'm learning a great deal from from everybody I talk to but I will say that there are Divergent opinions in the community but there is also unified believe that the school are critically important to the success of our kids and our community so we are all on the same page without respect and so it's about channeling all the energy towards the common goal looking at the organization the school organization my this this Focus area is looking at efficiencies and effectiveness of how we are structured so that's looking at Staffing levels on both instructionally I'm not a certificated the classified the management looking at all of our efficiencies to see are we structured in a way that is the most efficient or do we need to make some recommendations to change that it's also analyzing the budget and looking at what are our priorities where we spending money and is that an alignment with what our goals are or are we spending money in areas that may not be directly tied to what our priorities are and are there ways to maximize Efficiency Services joint use projects so looking at a lot of different areas in make sure word as most efficient as we can a school climate is is also something that's critically important and so we want to make sure that our our our students are our want to come to school want to learn in our teachers want to be there and support them and that's really who at the key and it takes great principles guiding that process and our parents are great Partners is also it's also learning about the culture and trying to establish a great collaborative energetic environment for our district in many cases we have that and it's just two to continue that School Safety and Security that is a is a very dense topic and it's critically important going to take quite a bit of time one of the things I'll be doing is examining our current master plan that was completed making recommendations for next steps in that process also looking at our safety and security measures part of what I do when I am on my weekly visits with the school sites is eye mask in the principles about their challenges they may have regarding their physical plant and then I report back to to mr. Butler dr. Butler who has a running list and so I'm constantly at the school site sending emails to dr. Horvath dr. fricker dr. Butler making notes of stuff and then we kind of circle back and see if a running list of improvements facility improve some of those were going to talk about at our facility study session next week but it's it's it's it's continuing the process of examining these areas and walking the campuses and then as far as bored location of making sure that we have a collaborative communicative process we have protocols in place I'll one of the things movie planning and November the end of November is aboard aboard shop on protocols to establish protocols moving forward and so we we have some plans for that and then also will be looking at a future study session or training on on Brown act procedures protocols as well so all good things recommended through csba to make sure that we're working in the best way possible so the goal is that on for Phase 2 which will be around March of 2019 is to come forward with findings and recommendations and so in all these Focus areas I'll be doing quite a bit of work making it's making notes and then I'll provide the board a report and not reported March will have findings and recommendations moving forward and then and then my recommendation to the board for phase 3 of the plan is based on these findings of recommendation as a community to go through a process of developing an action plan over through a three-year plan this is a working document it can it can change over time but that would be my recommendation would spend about 6 months developing a three-year plan for our school district focusing on curriculum instruction technology to our fiscal Outlook and safety and security measures and not concludes my report Stars making that's myself to okay I guess before we have a boy discussion with it we have a speaker on this item so we'll bring up to Heather Matteson good evening Heather good evening this is a good start to dr. trinisys tenure here at Palos Verdes I can't tell you how happy I was to see number one being all of our students are physically and emotionally safe and healthy at school PTA council's Focus this year is on the health and wellness of all students and so I am thrilled that we tie and very nicely with what you're planning to do as well so I look forward to working with you and with the board to make things safer and healthier for students thanks thank you very much so as we go and do you want to hear thoughts from all of us would that be the best way to kind of bring this through people have specific that okay sure try. Actually I think in terms of putting together a plan and I really like that the first part of the plan is actually listening and and seeking input from you know not just the Board of Education who do I know you report to but really all the members of the community involving the schools because I think it's important whenever you come into a new District in new culture that you understand what's good and What needs some work down in the district and various points of views of different stakeholders I'm glad to see that you have an expectation that 100% of our kids actually are at grade level or above regardless of what demographic categories of lofty expectations the best school districts in what you got about 85% of the time but we have the way she go to actually get to the 85% number that some of the best in class districts in the state are so I think that that's important clearly you know social emotional Wellness especially given what's going on with them sure you'll hear about and you're listening running tour of what happened this past summer we we had a lot of tragedy in the community I think it is is really important and that we find a way in partnership with some of the organization that you're going to be speaking with like the city council's and hopefully some of some of the health care providers for example in the community to address some of those needs so it I think it's at a really good outline the plan you know you have three pictures that may be long here for the board in March that me actually rooting me that you'll deliver that refer to the tour accurate so I'll give you 40% on that portion so far I look forward to to seeing a how you progressing up the plan the one thing I would say is that I know you have it in the focus areas in the back on the school organization but I do think it's important in terms of how to address the issues that we have to recognize the constraints that we have on the budget glad that we have a bye balanced budget for the first time in several years here but we do have to really look at when we want to put more emphasis in a particular area how we going to fund that priority and what did I tell you no defunding another priority that we may be receiving too much or was it that means you have to do some kind of collaborative effort and I know you're big on Partnerships with outside organizations which is great you know we really need to look at that okay thanks Tony I want to add a couple things I really appreciated the fact that you're phases you bound them by time so sometimes we've had really robust conversations in the district and we don't always get back to them so I love the fact that there's deliverables and smart goals with the capital s party going on so I like that I want to just give a couple of pointers or things to think about I don't know if they actually rise to adding a new bullet but I just want to make sure you hear from me so I may not be there later to say it on the assessing of the district regular programs my Mantra has been about having district-based summative and formative assessment that we create I think the new textbook adoptions are going to the fact I was going to happen for some but I think we did across all subject matters I would love that to be an actual goal that we work towards over the next three years some of the sources you talk about understanding and assessing some of these different sources information to be really important to Deep dive back into the watch reports one of the issues they hit on and I think of some other good stuff in there or some other things under the public confidence you mentioned the PTA and the boosters and you have PDF in the back I definitely think they do deserve their own bullet and maybe adding weather it's just something you do or something you want to add doesn't have to be there as I think the the faith communities on the Hill are really strong and a large percentage of our students are part of them and also other local military is another group size that looks great excited to see what you come up with so the first face finishing info so how will the information that you listen learn lead how will that Deb Talan with our budgeting process for the following year the instructional piece or all so I'm just curious as you're doing this part how will that mean I'm assuming you willing that's a really good question I think that in making some of these recommendations we may want to attach dollars espinho dollar amounts to some of them to help guide that conversation so that that's a good you know that's a good point and maybe something I can work with dr. Butler on in in making this report is having where we can dollars next to it for example if the recommendations are you know stem Curriculum by 2020 and we are going to want attached you know to $9 to that as an estimate estimated amount so yeah look at that works out well because that's not the time when you're finished with that piece that's about the time of The Delfonics budget so I'm assuming that they were connected. Everything Loft appreciate it and I just want to provide support to help you get whatever you need we have a lot of people who work here for seniors who have retired recently so if there's any no conversations you want to have other people most of us would know where most people have gone if there's people that now it's kind of community you want to connect with other people in the community so whatever I can do to help you do your work I'm happy to do it Barbara I think this is an excellent report I think it's you've done such good job I don't want to add anything to it I don't want to change it I don't want to tell you what bullet you've missed or what it's fabulous and I'm just sad I won't be to hear it went well I can watch it on TV okay so I'm pray that it's it's your process to go through absolutely and only thing I would just added it for me to think about 2 is just under the confident public confidence to just keep in mind that we really don't have local media Outlets we really have one and then we you don't next door and Facebook and all of that too so it's not really so much media Outlets is it how in today's world to get information I was just a little bit different so just something to kind of think about a little bit more the one question I had is just when you you talked several times about this 75% grade level 25% below but that's only really in in English language arts and math so what about all the other subjects that we teach how do you measure Effectiveness in Word scratch and social studies and it will have some science Testing coming back but in other electives at the middle and high school levels dr. fricker can you help out with that so I think with any process we want to make sure that we have in buying from all stakeholders and in doing that I think that the assessment portion is in a play at figure portion and driving that day really making those decisions instruction across the district and then that will also contribute to what programs we offer where we lend a greater level of support and then where we can kind of retract that the part I think part of it is also dialogue deep the grade-level either the the the department chairs potentially cuz you know that if you talk the World Language Department they're going to know whether somebody is you know at grade level or not in their subject area same with every every subject really it's just hard because we we don't have quantitative data on it Ezra readily available so yeah not plan but can we talk about achievement outer 84 the children taking AP exams and they're like where we are as far as this required on all subject areas cuz at least at that level in English language if you're taking that exam where did you get if if kids are mostly passing or not we will have a presentation but I think we need to start with math and we need to get our kids up to grade level there and so that is that is the goal as far as no competency and grade-level competency and other subject is critically important as well it's just not it's just harder to quantify okay thanks is anyone else have any anyone have anything need a motion to approve this item any further discussion okay all those in favor so that carries 5 hero and thank you very much. All right next up is a report of the scrock board representative and not is Barbara okay well the school year has started for us and TV and it's also started for scrock and you need to know that the way it's cross and Roll Stew in our classes is that we have people called Career guidance specialist that we send out to the high school and they meet with the counselors very briefly they information about Scruff with the counselors they also leave a sign up sheet and a date when they will be back and so students can just pick up the information and sign up to meet with the specialist this is done so it's not to be a burden to the counselors at all our high schools so and we have people who are experts in all of this and we send them out to all the high schools and we get the kids signed up for the classes and that is the way it has been as far as we know since the beginning of this crock this year Torrance unified notified notified schroth that they no longer wanted our guidance specialist come to their campuses they didn't want them to meet with their students they said just drop the information off and will take care of it so if you're a counselor at a high school and all of a sudden you have to take the time to sign up people in the Staten students in this that and the other what do you think would happen well it happened so at the last Scott board meeting they were talk about talking about the student enrollment for this coming year and Torrence being the largest school district in the joint Powers Authority hat they have and double the number of students we have them where the second largest District the numbers have dropped dramatically from Torrance Unified and remember Torrance the schools districts are now hankscraft for services on the basis of pursuit so that was the first thing that was learned at this at the September scrap board meeting the second thing we learned high school student from TV came and talked to the Scruff board and she's very articulate and she came to complain and she came to complain because she had signed up for a class at school and it has been canceled now classes are only canceled if there is insufficient enrollment to justify having the clap so the board just looked at the scratch superintendent and said what happened and he said we had to cancel seven classes this year because we didn't have sufficient enrollment which is very unusual when are the classes at if you cancel is a Project Lead the Way class in biology which is a great class and of course we don't offer it we don't know for that particular class so anyway she was very distressed she said she taken several classes at scratch and she's really been looking forward to it and and then she went on to say that she had several friends from Torrance unified who had wanted to take classes and they went to the counselors and their counselors would not sign off on them taking the classes so what is it appears that what is now happening in Torrance unified is not only are they denying access to their kids to help them sign up for classes but the counselors are some of them are actively denying access so anyway not only are the Torrance kids being affected but it's now having a ripple effect in the other school districts which is very disappointing because I know our philosophy on the board at least on the time I've been here is a tweet try to provide as many educational opportunities to students as we can and and scrock is one of them and to have a district that is appears to be actively denying access to the round kids is really distressingly you have any control over it but it's really very sad and I'm just going to leave it at that thanks for everything it's all good for us to the more we know about the pelvis to bed until I really appreciate it report of the technology advisory committee as Suzanne and I attend that and so I will let me know so yeah send that check committee meets how often like every other month or every quarter section of a District staff primarily that come and talk about the technology issues at their campuses there is a not now kind of a what does an agenda what is snow pretty loose technology everything seems to bleed together anyway no matter what topic you're discussing we did talk a lot about and adoptions and Chromebooks district-wide over the summer so that's helped our kids have accessed in the classroom to a device what are the things that came couple of different ways was the idea that using online curriculum how it how it evolves and how it changes and how updates are made and how our staff is notified or not and that that is kind of a new reality that teachers have to adapt to and it is difficult it's time-consuming because if you think about it like the contract and you go buy that book she got a whole nother book you can ask stuff right but it's different when you use an online tool and improvements are made and you have to adapt to those improvements when you're teaching so tell different teachers brought that up in different ways and I thought that was kind of I'm interesting the other topic that probably was discussed the most was cell phone use and used in general and Middle School's Eddie Garcia every school has some kind of a methodology in be tracking and monitoring cell phone use but I think I would ask her to trance to do as you're spending your next few months learning listening leading is watching the usage of phones and how kids are using them and how it's such a help us adopt a unified policy that all of our students and teachers can follow you know based upon the grade level and I think is that that makes sense we didn't talk about districts and do things different ways but teachers that have very specific ways that they use very effective so you don't want to have a policy that illuminate someone's tool because they use it very specifically like a conversation was very interesting and very rich in that area so I think that would be majority of things we talked about trying to anything else that I wanted to thank everyone for for coming cuz I is there time to be there and the other cell phone conversation was fascinating just just a specially appreciate a MasterCard from Peninsula High School is very passionate about the topic and had some really good thoughts and and I would like to bring back to the board sooner rather than later at least as a starting point for a conversation with the recommendation from staff on on some consistencies they're keeping in mind that everybody you know has a specific reason for doing what Manana software piece was just a really fascinating to yourself because it was a good meeting I thought and came to show up and speak and that's that's how it's supposed to work there was great and thank you Trent for leaving that meeting okay public comment on non agenda items Janet no cards okay moving on to P1 which is discussion action we are going to have to open a public hearing on a sufficiency of instructional materials and my colleagues will help me because this is my first time doing one of these and make sure that I do it correctly so I need the time right so at 7:19 I'm going to open a public hearing on sufficiency of instructional materials and we do we have any speakers on that we do not know that we will close the public hearing on sufficiency of instructional materials and that's it for that item right okay all right to P2 is to go what that dr. fricker is going to lead us on statement of sufficiency of instructional materials for a fiscal year 2018-19 and approval of the resolution in the Right Guard thank you very much Miss read I guess we would like the boy consider the approval of the insurance if its efficiency of instructional materials for the 2018-19 school year we do cats out a nut of inquiry to all of our school sites principles and staff to ensure that had enough construction materials and all of our classrooms that is posted 10 days prior to the board of its Board of Education agenda being posted all of those inquiries have come back positive so we do have the Assurance with that we do have instruction Cheerios in Auburn School type in classrooms okay great thank you so much so I need a motion on this one of instructional materials compliance any discussion okay all those in favor and UFOs that carries 5-0 thank you and removing on TP 3 which is election of members to the Los Angeles County committee on School District organization and that one is dr. Feller to his we've talked a little bit this item might go unnoticed many years but in this particular Year we will likely have an item coming before this board so just want to make sure that you had seen this and have the opportunity to vote for your representatives so there am I correct in understanding that for one of them are two people incumbent and a Challenger for the first one and the second one is just somebody correct so I would definitely it's obviously unless there's something we don't know vote for the person that's running by themselves and then for the to the income it seems to be fairly well qualified as everything that we know about her that's out there that would there's nothing that we know about to give you addition formation on other than what you're saying then I would choose the person unless you know something going it's going to make the point that on 4th supervisorial District I believe that's us so we can write in a candidate write off sport if we want to like to do it actually you're on here I happen to know Heidi Ashcraft personally she was a torrent board member she was asked Rock School Board member for many many years she is a very fine individual she cares very deeply about children she does a lot of community work so sure thing and she's been on the city council for Taurus for this person is so incredibly outstanding well forget it since Barbara said that I don't want to do the front page you are the voting of apparently you are your thoughts on the topic brick Barbara on Frankfort bad for John Cleese and was far superior so but I don't know anything about them personally breaking news Alton Illinois I know nothing about the two candidates I thought the ones below was probably not so we need a motion that the four for the board who the board is going to cast our votes for or their who Miss lucky is going to cast my vote will help me so I need to find chassix vote for the incumbent in the fourth super District on a lake City School District hours Asian Heidi help me out for the discussion on this I want you to know that Heidi's husband went to scrap when he was a heist and that started his career in the printing business and from there he's doing all sorts of digital work but he can shake our very strong supporters favor all right that carries 50 silver good with that item and we are moving on to q1 which is also dr. Butler and that's architectural services for the design and construction of the mirror left tractable bleachers I'm a prisoner read I just want to make a quick note before dr. Butler presents on this I spent the the morning at Merrill last looking going into the gym with the school principal after hearing from several several people including the administration about the real need there at the school for bleachers it's it's it's perfectly important to the community and so I spent some time there today and I can definitely attested a need not only is it used during the school day but on weekends I can see family is like my myself bringing their kids to games to advance and so I think it's an important thing for us to do so with that doctor brother thank you and so we did some work in background investigation to find out exactly what will it take to get to the next level the designed solution so this is the first step got engaged in the architect actually get going we we have a shot at piggybacking potentially upon some design work that's already done by bleacher manufacturers to get TSA approval for looking for what's the most expeditious efficient way to go forward on this but that will require engaging in architect to help us design potential Solutions no solution will come back to the board then for approval with staff recommendation property of any questions on this one no Tony brick the architect this particular architect PWS is one that we work with on a regular basis weight Frazier has a great knowledge of the school system and cards facilities and is also been exceptionally willing to help when I've needed advice on projects without charge so we have a good professional relationship and I believe that the fees that he's charging for this step you're reasonable with again the caveat we can piggyback off of some of the existing work he will lower his fee and do we have other Architects that we do team we work with or is this kind of the district architect who is here at the last board and it will the I wish it was not the architect but they recommended a different one for the project Closeouts we working with a different on that and then so where is the threshold in. Is there. Dollar value fresh do I know a lot of its management judgment but when do we go out and seek competitive bids as opposed to just saying this is our guy is pretty positive we could once in awhile I'll just go out and do an RFP for architectural services and see what we get back and I would hope the mr. Frazier would take part in that as well if we were doing it entertain such an RFP certainly possible to do thanks Amazon the board approve pbws Ark proposal for architectural services for the design and construction administration of the miraleste intermediate school gymnasium retractable bleachers for a fixed fee of $18,440 plus reimbursable expenses okay II and any further discussion nope just one question but there are the temporary bleachers there to at least I felt last year we had bought some temporary stay up I'm going to about two hundred or so there in four different ones well I just wanted to so they might be rolled out to the pool when you were there that kind of switching back and forth are we talking about the next meeting on the 24th yes and so will look when we talk about miraleste will we talk about how we're going to get through this year also I mean things are going to happen if you're less this year and it's not the project so I can get finished but this has been an issue since 2016 correct actually is the bleachers off because of the potential safety issues believe that was at the end of the 1617 school year so. March or April 17th but it's so when we do finish the inside bleachers the bleachers we purchased really for robotics thing can be used outside instead and they are I think they were metal actually purchased with a rolling device so they can be used at any site we can load them into our truck and get them somewhere else when we temporary seating so we will try to look to the Future on that great thank you I'm so we need a boat on this fine probably the first and second so all in favor as an information I deny Williams uniform complaint quarterly report that's attached to the agenda and then we will move on to reports of board members and mr. Phillips Europe do we get do we get the Williams uniform report what is attachment so I like a doctor turns to the doing his chores of all the school sites I started my annual tours at the school sites at a slower Pace however and I do once I today when I when I do I'm so so far I've been to the nah today and I'm starting essentially with the elementary school sites that have new principals at them so enjoyed my visit with Raphael there and I'm seeing that not at all the classrooms there on Friday I will be at Cornerstone still doing coffee with the school board members I do those on the sun days prior to the board meeting so our next board meeting is going to be on November 24th and I'm sorry October 24th and so I'll be doing that on October 21st at Malibu Cove yellow Vaz at 10 a.m. and then the last thing I'd like to say is that you're one of the reasons that I came on the board and one of the things I thought I could contribute is to reduce the amount of litigation in The District in one of the ideas I proposed is having an ombudsman office which I did I hope that we do discuss that the bet the board as a way to implement it but it also takes support from the community and is anybody who's been through litigation can tell you you know litigation is really a last resort for solving problems when you go to litigation the people that really benefit are the lawyers you're not really benefiting I know students are not benefiting the district and so I would encourage the community to try and work problems out then the district and not resort to lawyers to to deal with their problems with the district yes I made it I'm invoking Malcolm sharp cuz I have a prop oh you do yeah 9 years but I will do it tonight I wanted to thank a doctor turn is for taking a group of us up to the Coastal Marine biolabs and integrative biosciences program up in Aventura week I was a great opportunity to come and see how some folks that are engaged and kind of 21st century technology integrating living breathing studies that they're working on and also work you honest I want to thank you for a while you're doing your 3L process you also are hitting the ground running and trying to build capacity of months that's the way I appreciate that, I want to thank the PTA Council for having Barbara and I on Friday for recognizing us car service I was especially touched to see Barbara touched by that so I will leave it at that written mention it tonight at the first time and I don't know how many months but we don't always agree but something we agree on quite javelinas about voter registration and I just really it's it's just vitally important that everybody possible has their voice heard on we live in a community that seems to be very engaged but we don't always I know that is a new parent of 3 kids from senior to 3rd grade it's not always easy on I do think we're also very blessed that we live in a state where actually voter registry and isn't overly cumbersome Texas just ended yesterday for Florida as well we can go online we can do it so I would do everything you can to encourage people to register and to vote and regardless of how you feel about do we need to have everybody's voices heard and then this is a little bit funny cuz I'm no longer the present but while I was the president I worked with the candidates for the school district that kind of onboard them on an orientation about the action with dr. Tobin and I just want to kind of share with the public that and I share this before we are not in charge of the election so we reap the benefits of it we kind of kick it off but essentially the county is in charge of if you got issues where people signs are placed if they're too close if there are any legal spots if the land doesn't approve if you have any of those issues we don't control that you need to talk to the candidates are you talk to the cities so I just want sure that's clear that we we know we have no part of that but we're going to be going to reap the benefit of some amazing and I can it's when they show up I want to remind you about the event on Thursday 9th for the League of Women Voters I'm and I'm hoping that tomorrow night we see some amazing thoughts and ideas from our candidates that do not model what's going on nationally and do not look like National politics that look like our community and then lastly didn't know neither respond but I know Rick is messed mentioned a gift tax in the past I'm curious if this board is going to have a discussion about that or it will be the next board so the next few weeks you can just let me know either way and I can make sure my thoughts I heard about that with that I'm done I think Stoney Suzanne I might be the shortest pick her tonight that's interesting anyway it's been a fun start of the school year like there's a great energy all the time every campus I go to all the time with parents and students and teachers so that's nice I I think it's even tonight is a great energy in the room talk about two things that I did not pull off consent consent for anyone listening that consent calendar are things that are kind of more routine approval so we don't talk about each individual item so that are you know something's are is automatic right to think so was an item that was approved called learn-by-doing and it's for PV high school and I am not sure which students at PV high will benefit from $8 per student for 500 students and it seem like a really kind of a neat tool that students can practice their tasks 88 you know the SAT can I get immediate feedback so they were practicing and using the tool as a way to you know get better this time I'm always curious like why didn't they don't want to use it this is the kind of thing we should be Aaron wants to pay for these prep classes I don't have to do a survey to take and no kids want to go to school I think it makes sense so I want to bring that up and then number two item on measure and minutes that's also so on that one I just think that and I don't go to those meetings but for the first line says this is from that committee that there was significant discussion by committee members who felt up there message wasn't effectively communicated to the board and I thought that that was an interesting comment by them and that we need to make sure that when our different committees report to the board for whatever reason that we actually encourage members to come do it for themselves because I don't care who you are and what your messages no one can say the message like you can say your own message so imagine being someone trying to empty my messages right so I think that we always encourage committee members to come a long night for people to come sit for a meeting so I think it's important so I would encourage present when they want to and then I will be at the Skechers walk on the 28th I think that's a really fun event every year and I hope to see people there and great thank you Barbara I would also like to thank the PTA for the lovely brunch I had a lot of fun there and it was just nice reconnecting with people again and the other thing I want to say is that I am a grandmother for the first time civilize the Quinn lucky is in Raleigh-Durham and she's a preemie so she's still in the hospital she needs to grow a little bit and learn how to eat and maintain her weight so she's working on that but I do intend to do a lot of traveling visiting my new granddaughter once I get off this for so thank you thank you Barbara congratulations I'll tell you my 16 year old son is still trying to gain weight also that's wonderful of all of the school sponsor trips our policy which were all very excited about my finished getting together with Oliver Stephen board members over the last week gosh those are three really phenomenal kids they just all three of them just blew me away they have such great insight and I really encouraged time to let us know when there's things were talking about that they want to have a voice to if they if they can't stay for the whole meeting if there's enough for one of them and attended miraleste and they had thoughts about the bleachers just to send a note to us and we would make sure that we shared that at the board table as if they were there what kind of it I think they're all excited about having an opportunity to do that but just might not be something quite yet that's been so exciting for them to want to talk about I've also met some of our new elementary school principals I think that they've been amazing and and I really am made my day book about the school that I've been to so bar and Two Tonys point about voter registration I just know also that you can pre-register to vote so even our younger high school students my son just did this himself when he went to take his permit test and he got the little card in the mail that said you pre-registered even easier to do when you're there because actually asked you not to do it which I think is fantastic cuz it just gets it in their heads and I'm even a couple years younger than maybe they would have in the past that was all I had and no one else has anything else we are at at 8 4740
