Math Readiness Diagnostic
Students in Algebra 1 and higher will complete a readiness diagnostic in the fall and again in the spring of each school year. This diagnostic assessment is for informational purposes only and will not affect a student’s grade.
Students should give their best effort to ensure the results are as accurate and useful as possible. The purpose of the fall diagnostic is to assess a student’s readiness for their current course. In the spring, the diagnostic will provide information on a student’s preparedness for the course they plan to take the following school year.
The results should be viewed as one data point among multiple measures that can help guide decisions for students and teachers. These results are intended to support placement decisions, rather than determine placement, and to provide targeted content resources for the student. As this is a readiness test, very high or even perfect scores are expected, particularly in honors courses, and do not indicate the need for acceleration.
In both the fall and spring, families will receive a report indicating student scores and recommended benchmark scores for each content strand. To address any identified areas for improvement, the math department recommends that students use the resources listed below to strengthen their skills and ensure a solid mathematical foundation.
Please choose the course review materials based on the following criteria:
-
Fall Semester – Currently enrolled in the course
-
Spring Semester – Intending to enroll in the course for the upcoming fall semester
Examples:
-
If it is the fall semester and the student is enrolled in Algebra 2, they should use the Algebra 2 resources.
-
If it is the spring semester or summer, and the student has just completed Algebra 2 and plans to take Precalculus in the fall, they should use the Precalculus resources.
