- Kindergarten is for students who will be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2026.
- Transitional kindergarten is for students who will be turning 5 between September 2, 2026 and September 1, 2027.

Both transitional kindergarten and kindergarten will help prepare your child for success as they start their educational journey. Students will:
- Establish a routine
- Learn independence
- Visit the school environment
- Develop fine motor skills
- Explore learning through play

School Orientations for TK and Kindergarten Families
To familiarize incoming TK and kindergarten students and families to the elementary school and its community, each site hosts an orientation in May. Families will be welcomed by the principal and staff, meet TK and kindergarten teachers, tour the campus, and learn about the early elementary curriculum.
Sites will determine their orientation dates in the spring. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
Orientations are by invitation only. Only students who have been notified via email of their school assignment should attend.

Universal Eligibility for TK
The California Education Code provides clear guidance for participation in Transitional Kindergarten (TK). Under Assembly Bill 130, all four year olds became universally eligible for TK beginning with the 2025-26 school year.
With TK now fully implemented statewide, PVPUSD is no longer able to make exceptions for students who fall outside the established birthdate eligibility window.
Once families receive their child’s school placement, they are encouraged to contact the school principal with any questions or concerns. Our kindergarten teachers are committed to supporting every student and fostering a welcoming and nurturing learning environment where all children can thrive.
